Who We Are
-
Our community allotment has been operating since the 2000’s, providing a space for members of the local community to get involved with organic food growing, gain horticultural education or simply be in community with nature and one another. See footage from the early days of the allotment in our gallery.
Previously, the allotment was managed through the beloved charity, Living Under One Sun (LUOS), a beacon of community spirit in the neighbourhood. We formed FLUOS to carry on that spirit and continue the invaluable work that brought us all together.
Volunteers are at the heart of our endeavour. The Gardening Team provide guidance and structure, but volunteers quickly become self-led, cultivating new plots, suggesting and growing interesting crops, etc
-
We are committed to welcoming people from all walks of life, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or socioeconomic status.
We are also committed to organic food-growing, and working in ways that produce the greatest ecological benefit and do the least harm - to the environment and to one another.
And while we have zero tolerance for actions or behaviours that endanger or exclude members of our community, we are also committed to abolitionist ways or navigating harm when it does arise, adopting the principles of transformative justice.
-
Our key focuses are achieving food sovereignty, promoting health & wellbeing, providing alternative education and high community engagement. We are particularly committed to engaging members of our community who exist on the margins.
